The Mississippi Primary Health Care Association, Inc. (MPHCA) is a non-profit , 501(c)(6) membership organization representing the interests of 21 Community Health Center (CHC) members in their efforts to improve access to health care for the medically underserved and indigent populations of Mississippi.

Since 1981, MPHCA has been providing a variety of services to its members including assistance with recruitment of health care professionals, education and training activities, technical assistance, national and state-based advocacy and a group insurance program for member employees.

MPHCA covers the costs of its operations through the receipt of federal grant funds, membership dues and funds generated by the sale of services to members. MPHCA has two categories of membership, organizational or voting and associate orgranizational or non-voting.

The 21 Community Health Centers (CHCs) represented by MPHCA are located in both rural and urban areas across the State. These CHCs provide complete preventive and primary health care services at 157 delivery sites including more than 100 primary care sites. Health services are also provided via school-based clinics and mobile units staffed by CHC clinicians and support staff.

These CHC are staffed by a team of board certified/eligible physicians, dentists, nurse practioner, nurses, social workers and other clinical and non-clinical providers. These centers provide cost-effective, comprehensive primary and preventative health services including, medical, dental, pharmacy, optical, social services, laboratory, transportation and many other services.

MPHCA's member CHCs saw a 107% increase in the number of patients seen from 450.2 in 1990 to 310,807 in 2004. This is evidence that the need for CHCs has never been greater. In many rural Mississippi communities, these centers are the only available health care providers and have become the medical home for many who have nowhere else to turn for help.

As an advocate for those who do not have access to basic health services, MPHCA works with its member CHCs, the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) and a host of cooperative agencies and partners to ensure the continued growth of community-based programs, services and centers providing quality, affordable health care for Mississippi's most vulnerable populations, the uninsured, underinsured and indigent.
Mississippi Primary Health Care Association (MPHCA) is a member organization, which supports its members in their collaborative efforts and advocates for the provision of equal access to quality, comprehensive health care services and the elimination of health disparities in the state.
